Inside you will find the perfect toolkit for introducing main idea with each picture book. This pack also includes lesson plans, overview of the book, SEL connections, vocabulary words, before/during/after reading questions, extension activities for each book (including writing activities!), anchor charts, and a student workbook featuring 6 extension activities for each book & 3 writing activities with vocabulary words (hands on activity & workbook), graphic organizers to support learning main idea comprehension in context.
What does this unit contain?
♥ Lesson Plans for the entire week
♥ Overview of the book that you can read and become familiar with the book and even read to your students.
♥ SEL Connections ideas and tip to connect the book to an SEL topic or theme.
♥ Vocabulary Words for each book and can be used as a sort or as part of the workbook. (Note – Flotsam does NOT have any vocabulary words.)
♥ Before Reading Questions to generate thinking and activating prior knowledge.
♥ During Reading Questions to help hold students accountable as they or you are reading the book.
♥ After Reading Questions to have students think outside of the box.
♥ Reading Response Questions that students can insert into their notebook to respond to the question related to the text. These questions are higher order questions.
♥ Extension Ideas are great for your students to use when you want to take the lesson plans even further but place the learning in their hands. Each book comes with 3 extension activities to use.
♥ A Book Talk (Mini Lesson Plans) is a mini lesson plan just for the teachers. The teacher can print these out and use them as a book mark for the book and have their questions right at their fingertips so they don’t have to search all over for the questions.
♥ Anchor Charts are provided for skill or theme of the book. You have 4 options to print – a black and white (which can be displayed and traced), a color one (printed), half sheets for the notebook or quarter sheets.
♥ A student workbook is provided for the students and then there are 6 different activities that the students can complete independently or with fellow classmates. Each of pages contains a graphic organizer for the students complete.
♥ Writing Activities for each book encourages the students to think and write about the book.
