The Self-Management Curriculum is a comprehensive program that includes 20 detailed lessons spread over four weeks. Each week focuses on a different aspect of self-management, including Self-Regulation, Handling Stress, Self-Motivation & Goals, and Organizational Skills. The lessons are designed to be engaging and interactive and include an introduction, discussion, daily activity, and conclusion.

Weekly Plan for Self-Management

During Week 1, students learn how to identify their emotions, behavior, and thoughts. They also learn various calm down strategies to regulate their emotions. In Week 2, they explore different stressors that they might encounter, how to handle stress, and maintain focus. In Week 3, the focus is on setting goals- both for school and home. The students learn how to create goals, why goals are important and how they can motivate themselves to achieve them. Finally, in Week 4, students learn different ways they can organize their space and their day. From organizing their desk to developing a morning and nighttime routine, students learn valuable skills that will help them be more organized and effective.

Self-Management Curriculum

The Self-Management Curriculum includes many resources to support students’ learning. Teachers receive a toolbox that provides strategies to support student learning, daily journals, and anchor charts. There are also 20 days of daily journal prompts that encourage self-reflection, goal setting, and strategizing on how to use their newly learned self-management strategies. Teachers can further tailor the lesson content to meet the needs of their classroom.

It should take about 20 school days to complete the curriculum, but teachers can extend the lessons if necessary. The curriculum is designed for 3rd-5th grade classrooms, but it can be adjusted for younger or older students as well. It aligns with CASEL’s SEL Competencies, so teachers can be assured that it is an evidence-based program that meets the rigorous standards for social-emotional learning.
